Claw vs Clutcher vs Barrette: What’s the Difference?
When we first started Vanizi, I honestly had no idea there were so many types of hair clips. I mean, I thought a clip was just a clip 😅. But after trying and testing a bunch of styles with my wife, we realized… claws, clutchers, and barrettes are all different — and each one has its own charm.
🦋 1. Hair Claw

Hair claws are those clips with a spring in the middle and comb-like sides that open and close. They’re perfect when you need a quick hairstyle fix. Messy bun? Half-up twist? Hair claws do it all.
We love these for everyday use because they’re comfy and don’t pull the hair. You can get simple matte ones, floral designs, or even ones with little pearls — all look cute.
🌸 2. Hair Clutcher

Now, the clutcher is basically a fancier claw. In India, people call bigger, decorative claws “clutchers.”
They hold thick hair better and often have stones, metallic finishes, or other designs that make them look more elegant. My wife swears by these for parties or casual outings when she wants her hairstyle to last longer.
Basically, all clutchers are claws, but not every claw is a clutcher.
🌼 3. Barrette

Barrettes are different. They’re flat clips that snap shut. They’re small, cute, and mostly used to hold little sections of hair.
Think kids’ bows, pearl clips, or the ones you see in K-dramas — they’re great for styling without taking over your whole look.
✨ Quick Recap
Claw Clip: Everyday, comfy, springy clip
Clutcher: Bigger, decorative claw, perfect for thick hair
